Campaign for 51 Warren Street

74 Rear Warren Street
OLD HOME for past 8 years

The Seven Loaves Soup Kitchen has outgrown its current home while serving its target groups of working poor, unemployed, handicapped, limited fixed income seniors, low income families and individuals.

Since 2011, a committee had been searching for a more suitable facility in Tunkhannock that would meet all the elements of the Seven Loaves Soup Kitchen strategic plan.

51 Warren St
NEW HOME – 51 Warren Street

In June 2014, an office building at 51  Warren Street became available.  The building has 4,000 square feet with plenty of parking.  The soup kitchen will be able to easily accommodate all those who come to their door.  All storage will be in-house and a newly designed kitchen will provide plenty of room for volunteers to prepare and serve the meal.

An offer of $580,000 was made and accepted and in August, a $400,000 mortgage was approved allowing the purchase of the 51 Warren Street property to be finalized in early September.

Campaign Chair, Bill Ruark Jr. is leading the steering committee (Cassandra Bell, Raleigh Bloch, Jim Cooley, Lou Divis, Gary Johnson, Edwin Kintner, Frank Oliver, Ken Price, Janice Shaffer, Mary Lu Shaffer, Mathew Shaffer, Matthew Toolan) in raising funds for the purchase of the building with a goal of $580,000 to be debt free.  As of July 18, 2015, over $518,000 in gifts and pledges have been received.

Gary Johnson volunteered his services as general contractor of the renovation project and several businesses, contractors and professionals have offered their services to  transform the new building into a fully functional soup kitchen.

Over the past seven years the Seven Loaves Soup Kitchen has accumulated approximately $100,000 in donations that are being used towards the renovations.  Additional funds will be needed to purchase a new heating & air-conditioning system.

Anyone interested in helping with the renovations or wish to contribute towards the HVAC system may call or e-mail for more information.
