How can you help?

It has been public support that has given us the confidence to move forward on this exciting new opportunity.  Without our annual operating support, we could not open our doors; we have no other income stream.

Who will be asked to pledge to this campaign?

Seven Loaves Soup Kitchen trustees, industries, individuals, foundations and businesses will be asked for pledges of support. Local churches are planning special events to raise funds for the new building. We announced a community wide campaign in July 2014.

Are government grants available?

Government grants come with strings attached that are often permanent. From the beginning Seven Loaves Soup Kitchen has adopted a policy not to apply for or accept government money that might alter its mission.

Can I give in other ways – can I give stock?

Yes, often people will chose to give appreciated property to a campaign like this (stock is a great example). Giving appreciated stock provides a double benefit to the donor.  The full fair market value of the stock is the income tax deduction, and the donor also avoids paying capital gains taxes. To take advantage of this type of gift YOU MUST TRANSFER THE STOCK. Do not sell the stock and give the money; that would trigger a capital gain on your part. Call Ted Oberg, Financial Advisor, Edward Jones for instructions on transferring stock or other appreciated assets to this building campaign – 570-675-3335.

Is my pledge tax deductible?

Not the pledge, but to the extent provided by the law, the actual payments on the pledge are tax deductible in the year they are made.

Who will control the funds raised in the campaign?

A separate fund account will be established to receive all gifts and grants for the purchase of the building. This account will be included in the Soup Kitchen’s annual, independent financial audit.

How can I get involved in the campaign?

The campaign will require a number of volunteers to go out and tell this story to potential donors. The Seven Loaves Soup Kitchen has a wonderful, compassionate story to tell, and it needs people to tell it. This organization has enjoyed tremendous past support from the community we serve, and we are optimistic about the chance for a successful campaign.
